Session structure
Sessions generally last for about 50 minutes (unless they involve formal learning / educational assessments). The initial session provides an opportunity for you to discuss what you are hoping for from the sessions, and for the psychologist to talk with you about your ideas and gain insight into the development of your concerns. Usually, the psychologist takes some notes during each session to assist you both. Following the initial session, the psychologist may ask you to think about something or do something before the next session.
Appointment availability
Active Psychological Services is located in the main street of Angaston (48 Murray Street, Angaston). Car parking is available off Hannay Crescent at rear, and entry is via the footbridge adjacent to the public toilets at the rear of the building (look for the Active Psychological Services sign). Most people who request an appointment require it as soon as possible. While we endeavour to meet your needs, we generally have at least a two week wait for an initial appointment. Sometimes this may be as long as twelve weeks.
If you feel as though you might hurt yourself or someone else, please make an urgent appointment to see your General Practitioner (GP) or go to the nearest hospital emergency room for help.

Making an appointment
To make an appointment with either of our psychologists, please email your name, contact telephone number and a brief message to Kirsty (admin@activepsych.com) or Stacey (contact@staceyveness.com.au) directly. Please add our email address to your contact list to reduce the likelihood of responses redirecting to your spam email folder. If you have a mental health plan from your GP, please let us know when making an appointment and bring it with you to your first session. A GP mental health plan entitles you to a partial rebate from Medicare for your first six sessions, with the option of an extra four sessions per calendar year following a review by your GP.
If you telephone directly, please understand that we are usually unable to answer the phone because we are often in session with clients. Please leave your name and telephone number on our answering service and we will endeavour to call you back within 72 hours to set up an initial appointment.
GP Referrals with completed Mental Health Plans may be faxed to 08 7200 7722 or posted to Active Psychological Services, 48 Murray St, Angaston SA 5353.
