Therapies and Services
A professional and comfortable environment is provided for our clients. A range of empirically supported methods are utilised in providing assessment and treatment of a range of concerns related to emotional health. These include:
Psycho-education
Psycho-education is a specific form of education aimed at providing clients and/or others with information related to symptoms, presentation, difficulties, neurobiology, prevalence, prognosis and recommended treatments for a variety of mental health presentations.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT aims to help us get in touch with what really matters to us by clarifying our values and to teach us psychological skills, or mindfulness techniques, to more effectively manage painful thoughts and feelings.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a structured therapy considering all elements that maintain a problem, including our thoughts (cognitions), feelings, behaviour and the environment. It involves a partnership between you and your psychologist, and you are fully involved in planning your treatment. Usually you will have a thorough assessment in the first session or two. Each session involves discussion, explanation and practice of skills and techniques.
Systemic Family Therapy
Systemic Family Therapy recognises the systemic context we each live within, rather than treating behaviours and/or individuals as isolated. In this approach, we work with you to understand patterns of behaviour, beliefs or stories that have developed in family systems and the wider environment in which we live. This aims to develop the family's resources in coping with difficulties.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was developed by Marsha Linehan. DBT is a type of psychotherapy recommended for treating Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). DBT is a style of cognitive behavioural therapy, focusing on the role of cognition (e.g., thoughts and beliefs) and behaviours (e.g., actions) in the development and the treatment of BPD.
